Accessibility

Our commitment to an inclusive experience

KireKids is committed to making this website and our resources accessible to everyone — including people with disabilities, and the parents, educators, and young people who use assistive technologies.

What we do

We design with accessibility in mind and work toward meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This includes:

Readable text — we use clear fonts, sufficient colour contrast, and scalable text that works with browser zoom and screen magnification.

Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements (links, buttons, menus, forms) are accessible by keyboard.

Semantic HTML — we use proper headings, landmarks, and page structure to support screen readers and assistive technologies.

Descriptive links — link text describes where the link goes, rather than using generic phrases like "click here."

Alt text — images include alternative text descriptions.

Downloadable resources — our free PDF resources are text-based and navigable. We are working to improve the accessibility of all downloadable materials.

What we are still improving

Accessibility is ongoing work, not a one-time fix. We are a small team and we are actively improving. Areas we are continuing to work on include enhanced screen reader testing, improved PDF accessibility, and adding captions and transcripts to any future audio or video content.
